The short version:
College Student. Grad Student. Convert to Catholicism. All around Big Nerd. Expect to see posts about science in America, college issues, religion, and random things I find interesting. Also, try my weekly trivia game!
The long version (posted 22 December 2006):
10 Things to Know about Me
1. I used to have one of these. In high school, I started an account with opendiary.com and went nuts. A few months after starting college, I felt that I had outgrown the idea of such Internet communities and let it lapse. Now, I realize that no one is too old to keep one of these things.
2. I have a fiancee. After we had been dating for three years, I proposed, and she said yes. More specific planning to come later. You can read more about this event here.
3. I am still a big nerd. I am now a graduate student at a large public university in the US and am pretty good at it. I enjoy watching science fiction movies and boring friends with information about quantum computing. I support government funding of science and technology as long as there's no political agenda attached.
4. I do not like to identify with any political party. In fact, I am officially registered as "Unaffiliated" in my state. I tend to lean conservative on most issues, but am open to discussion, provided there is no name-calling.
5. I was confirmed Catholic on 15 April 2006. Before, I was baptized, but my parents lapsed for their own personal reasons. Thus, I had a very secular childhood. I recently came to realize that the Church, with all its imperfections, still gets some things right and can be fulfilling for those willing to make it work. Plus, I love me a good Kyrie eleison.
6. I am an old man, but I have branched out significantly in many areas. I have learned to drink beer and to listen to modern music. (Just not Top 40 radio.) The Girl is trying to help me out on this last part.
7. In my spare time, I solve picture puzzles at www.conceptistech.com. I also watch too much TV for my own good. One day, my penchant for staying up late to watch Adult Swim will get me in trouble.
8. In the future, I hope to a lot of traveling. I enjoy seeing the US, and I've been out of the country several times--Spain, England, Canada, Russia.
9. I'd like to consider myself an amateur photographer, chef, and guitarist. I'm not particularly good at any of these things, but enough to impress my friends.
10. I still have not read The Da Vinci Code, and I don't intend to.
